Financial assistance

Finances are a concern for every family. That’s why we at By Your Side stay abreast of all the financial-assistance programs for home care. Part of our intake process includes a survey of eligibility. Once we know the programs you qualify for, we can propose packages that make the most of that coverage. This keeps your out-of-pocket expenses to a minimum. The registered nurses we have on staff provide the required documentation for the level of service. They are available to initiate an appeal if needed. Also to request an increase in coverage as care needs become greater.

Veteran benefits

Veterans have access to home care coverage. Qualifying vets can receive Aid and Attendance benefits. This encompasses quite a broad range of services. Those who qualify for respite care can receive short-term assistance so a spouse can undergo needed surgery or take a much-needed break. We work closely with case managers, keeping them informed of changes in conditions. We will advocate for additional services if the need arises.

By Your Side is credentialed to work with the Veterans Administration. This means we bill them directly. There are no payments required for covered services.

Long-term care insurance

If the person you care for has long-term care insurance, very likely they have coverage for home care. Most of these policies have a waiting or elimination period during which you must pay out of pocket for the first few months of home care. Our staff at By Your Side can review your policy and suggest strategies to activate the policy so you pay the least amount possible from private savings. Our nurses will provide the documentation to initiate policy coverage and any paperwork needed down the line when care needs increase. If a claim has been denied, we can help you appeal. We help you receive all the benefits your relative has coming.

Medicaid

Individuals with low income may be eligible for Medicaid. The Oregon Department of Human Services has programs with varying service coverage. It depends on your eligibility. Some families may even qualify for services that do not require repayment to the state.

If you have questions about which services may be covered by these various programs, give us a call at 541-229-CARE (2273). We’ll be happy to help you explore your options and assemble a care plan that keeps your out-of-pocket expenses to a minimum.
