Short shifts (1 or 2 hours)

Every family’s needs are unique. We understand that. Unlike most home care services, we do not have a 4-hour minimum. Our standard shifts run 3 hours, but we can also accommodate short shifts in 1- or 2-hour increments. Plus, there are no weekly minimums.

Flexible scheduling

Together, we determine your needs and budget. Then we estimate what services could likely be addressed in a short-shift, hourly arrangement. Consider these possibilities others have found to be helpful:

  • A “rise and shine visit” each morning: Get the day off to a good start with a morning visit that might include getting out of bed, a shower, dressing, breakfast, and morning medications.
  • A “tuck-in visit” after dinner: A caregiver comes at the end of the day to be sure everything is okay (no falls or mishaps, no missed medications). After-dinner tasks might include a shower, pajamas, medications, and lights out.
  • Medication management: Once a week you might want a visit to fill the medication box, assess that all meds are being taken, order refills as needed, and work with the doctor to ensure the medication list remains accurate.
  • Twice-a-week shower, grooming, dressing, doing a load of laundry one day and changing the sheets another.
  • Social support: Accompanying your loved one to run errands or go to doctor appointments, worship, or other important activities outside the home.

Depending on eligibility, we can arrange services to match the programs you qualify for.

Long-term care insurance

If your loved one has long-term care insurance, there is likely a waiting or elimination period. This is a multimonth period during which you must pay for services out of pocket before the insurance will take over. Our staff understands the strategies and documentation needed to activate a plan. Act early when your needs are still small. We can help with short shifts so your direct costs are as low as possible. Once the waiting period is complete, you can decide if you want more care. When that time comes, we will help with the paperwork necessary to authorize an increase. Don’t wait too long to get started! It’s better to start small earlier so you don’t end up having to carry the full cost when the needs become greater.
